I am not an artistic person, and I don't do crafts. My crafty efforts are in the line of Camp Martha laminates, tampon angels, and large, glittery, crayola murals or collages made with friends over cocktails. I've recently taken up mosaics. Here are pictures of my first three projects. The first was completed some time ago -- the output from a weekend class I took with Corinne. Corinne and I are now in the midst of a second, 8-week, mosaics class. It's great fun! I enjoy Corinne's company, and I also find mosaics to be wonderfully compelling. Everthing else falls away as I'm engaged in it. The sad truth: there's only so much room for mosaic doo dads and hoo haws in & around my home. My mosaic days are limited. If one continued with this hobby, it would be easy to become a crazy mosaic lady, with mosaic havok and art and whatnot everywhere. Remember, these are just my first three efforts! ![]() ![]() This is a 12 X 12 ceramic (multiple purples and greens, black and yellow) and mirror with grey grout. Completely without function. ![]() ![]() The second project looks similar to the first in this photograph, but it's quite different. This is a tan/white/multiple green ceramic mirror frame with dark green grout. Almost completely without function. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the third and final project so far. It's a large Christmas ornament, glass and mirror with charcoal grout. My first glass piece. My next one will be better! I love working with the glass, but I also enjoy the ceramics. I like breaking tiles with a hammer, and the snip snip snip of nipping. The wonderful thing about mosaics for me is that so much of the result is tied to the materials that are used. I do love color and texture, and I've been having a good time with this stuff. |
